November 5, 1940 - August 2, 2016 Allan I. Brown passed away at his home in Los Angeles on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with cancer. Allan is survived by his beloved wife, Kelly; his four sons: Derek Joseph Brown, Justin Lewis Brown, Justin Alvarado Brown, and Morgan Harrison Brown; and his four grandsons: Dylan, Griffin, Callum, and Steffen. Allan was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Howard Brown. Allan was born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 5, 1940, to Harry and Ruth Brown. He grew up in Sheepshead Bay, New York, where his father worked in the poultry and fish industry. Allan excelled in both football and baseball at James Madison High School, and he later attended college at the University of Miami, where he also played football and studied history. Allan went on to become one of the most successful and respected marketing and promotions executives in the world, beginning with his time as a senior executive at Xerox and reaching a pinnacle as CEO of Simon Marketing, Inc., which he built into a global company with over 500 employees that represented numerous Fortune 500 companies, most notably McDonald's. Using his vast network of relationships that spanned across entertainment, media, toy and game companies, Allan created numerous groundbreaking promotions for McDonald's for over 30 years. He is credited with commercializing the "Happy Meal" and introducing the Monopoly game to McDonald's. In the early 1990s, when Allan was contemplating a move from Los Angeles to Chicago to be near McDonald's headquarters, Paul Schrage, longtime Chief Marketing Officer of McDonald's, said, "I don't want Allan in Chicago, I want him in Los Angeles where he is a legend, moving in and out of the studios, getting us the properties McDonald's needs." In honor of his life, Allan's family will be holding a private memorial service on Monday, August 8th, at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, 6000 Santa Monica Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90038.
