Obituary Condolences

February 14, 1966 - August 2, 2015 Our beloved Angie of the luminescent smile, problem solver extraordinaire, easy to love was felled by ALS. We mourn her leaving us but rejoice that we had her in our lives. Angélica Bloomquist, daughter of Eduardo and Alma Martinez was born on February 14, 1966 in San Diego, California. She died of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) on August 2, 2015 at home in San Pedro, California at the age of 49 years, surrounded by family and friends. Angélica had a Master's degree in Social Work and spent most of her career working in hospitals, the last eight years at Miller Children's Hospital in Long Beach often working with terminal ill patients. When she was positively diagnosed with ALS in August of 2013 she applied her social working skills to herself, getting her affairs in order, documenting her last wishes, and entering therapy to help herself and her family deal with the changes that were sure to come. Angélica is survived by her husband of fifteen years Frederic, their eleven-year-old son, Andrés, her parents Eduardo and Alma Martinez, her brothers, Albert and Eduardo, and her sister Guadalupe. She is also survived by an extended family and a treasure trove of friends. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 16 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden, Long Beach State University 1250 Bellflower Boulevard, Long Beach, California.
