Anne "Sandy" Margolis Obituary
July 1, 1922 - September 11, 2015 Born on July 1, 1922, the first of six children to Jack and Rose Stein, immigrants from Poland who passed through Ellis Island and settled on the Lower East Side of New York City. In 1948, Sandy moved to Los Angeles where she met the love of her life, soulmate and favorite dance partner, Harry. She and Harry were married on September 17, 1949. In 1959, Sandy and Harry started Margo-Made Furniture in Inglewood, CA. One small rack of greeting cards in their furniture store launched their small chain of Hallmark Cards and gift stores, Margo Gifts. After their retirement in 1982, Sandy and Harry dedicated their time and energy to volunteering and raising money for City of Hope. After Harry's death in 1996, Sandy continued the volunteer work and fundraising that was so important to her and had become her second career. Sandy was preceded in death by her siblings, Lillian, Sam, Helen, David and Norma. Sandy is survived by her daughter Sharon, son-in-law Shakir Abal, grandsons Hunter, Seth, Zane and Rayce, her son Steve and son-in-law Don Snodgrass. She was the youngest, hippest 93-year-old woman that anyone would ever want to meet. A memorial service will be held for Sandy on Sunday, September 13th at 2pm at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to City of Hope, Duarte CA, www.cityofhope.org/giving. Sandy wanted all of you to know that there will be no more cards.
