Arnold G. Balonick Obituary
December 12, 1941 - June 8, 2016 Arnold Balonick, husband of Roberta (nee Miska), brother to Shelley Balonick Davis, father of Zachary Balonick, Hannah Balonick, Jairo Lemus, and godfather to many, passed away on June 8th at Providence Tarzana Medical Center at the age of 74 after a hard-fought battle with congestive heart failure. The son of Sam and Helene, Arnold, or Arnie as he was known by those who loved him, was a successful entrepreneur. He was the creator of the Maxi-Float Mattress, which was the first hospital bed to combat bedsores and articulate with the bed. He sold to a worldwide network of hospitals that sought after his mattresses and advanced technology. Arnie was an avid outdoorsman, sportsman, and a lover of nature and all animals. He was particularly fond of his three dogs: Vic, Lolita, and Brody. An enthusiastic fisherman and sailor, Arnie helped pay his way through college shooting pool. He held a black belt in mixed martial arts, traveled worldwide to scuba dive, and held multiple awards in trap and skeet shooting. It should come as no surprise to those that knew him that his final request was for a Diet Coke and a cigarette. Offers of Diet Pepsi from the nurses were lovingly deemed unacceptable. Memorial services will be held Monday, June 13th at Mount Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery, 5950 Forest Lawn Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90068 at 12:30PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Operation Smile. https://www.operationsmile.org/
