From his birthplace in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York, he came to Los Angeles, California with his mother Rhoda when he was just a young boy. There he grew up, went to school, and met his sweetheart, Jacqueline (Stein). They married in 1962 and had recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. He graduated from Los Angeles High School (LA High) and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California (USC). Additionally, he served and was Honorably Discharged from the United States Coast Guard. A noted developer of residential real estate, he was a partner in Standard Investment Company in the 1970s and later went on to found Woodriver Properties located in Santa Monica. He was a patron of the arts, a champion of the State of Israel, an advocate for numerous charitable pursuits, and a mentor to a multitude. He had been a president of the local Boy Scout Council, appointed by the Mayor of Los Angeles as a Police and Fire Department Pension Commissioner, and served as a Director on a number of Boards.
