Athina Mullen Obituary
January 17, 1922 - February 23, 2016 CARLSBAD - Athina was born in Athens, Greece. After the war broke out she was unable to attend college but stayed in Athens with her mother, Eleni, and two sisters Francesca and Virginia. Athina had an incredible talent in accounting and easily found work with the Greek National Bank. In 1951 she met George Mullen who was stationed in Athens as a CIA agent. After a short courtship they married and moved to Los Angeles. Despite not speaking much English, Athina excelled at Paramount Studios in Hollywood as an Accounts Payable Supervisor for 25 years until she and George retired in 1985. Her greatest joy was to invite her niece, Zoya from Athens, Greece, to live with them and attend college. Athina and George treated Zoya like their daughter since they didn't have children of their own. They continued their loving relationship with Zoya especially after Zoya married and moved to San Diego. They saw each other often, visiting one another in San Diego or Studio City. After George's death in 2009, Athina moved to San Diego to live with Zoya and her husband Richard until she passed away of natural causes on February 23, 2016. She is survived by her nieces Zoya, her husband Richard, niece Mary and nephew Dimitris (Caterina) and grandniece Virginia. Private services were held in Bridgewater, MA where she was buried beside her husband George of 52 years.
