Aurora Christidis Obituary
October 26, 1950 - August 18, 2015 A native of New York City and longtime resident of Los Angeles, born October 26, 1950, Aurora was the eldest daughter of Mariya Sperdakos-Papachristidis and Phrixos Papachristidis. An avid reader, she graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna cum Laude from New York University and received both a JD and MBA with Honors from Columbia University. She was a fierce fighter for what she believed in, against the curtailment of any freedom, and a devoted animal advocate. With a brilliant and intuitive mind, Aurora was a born entrepreneur and acknowledged expert in executive recruitment. Among her outstanding career achievements were the establishment of successful pay television services in Turkey and Latin America. At the time of her death, she was involved as a business consultant with three growing companies: high tech digital security, business insurance and a real-estate-driven media service. An unforgettable character, her joyful enthusiasm was contagious. Aurora loved to celebrate life's big occasions. A superb chef, she cooked gourmet meals for family and friends. Strong, wise, loving, kind, funny-with an incredible zest for life-she touched the hearts of everyone she met. Aurora died peacefully at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center from complications following open-heart surgery on August 18, 2015, the anniversary of her mother's passing in 2012. Her husband, Neil Pennella, has been her beloved companion, business partner and caretaker for over forty years. He never left her side and adored her with all his heart. She is also survived by her siblings Basil Papachristidis, Thaleia Christidis, Ophelia Rudin and Alex Papachristidis, their families including nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews-a large extended family with whom she was extremely close-and her three cherished dogs Rosie, Bloomie and Scamp. Memorial Services will be held in her honor in New York and Los Angeles at dates to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Animal Rescue Foundation, arfhamptons.org in NY; or Amanda Foundation, amandafoundation.org in CA.
