Barbara Ann (Bonnett) Kallman Obituary
July 24, 1928 - June 18, 2016 Los Angeles - Barbara Ann (Bonnett) Kallman, 87, died Saturday, June 18, 2016 in Los Angeles. Barbara was the daughter of Alexander Mathias Bonnett, born November 1, 1898, in Chicago, Ill. and Milada "Mildred" (Vistaine or Vistein) Bonnett, aka Betty Cassill, born October 2, 1898, in Austria-Hungary (which became Czechoslovakia in October 1918). A long-time resident of the Silverlake area of Los Angeles, Barbara passed peacefully with her son and best friend at her side. Born on July 24, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio, Barbara was a 1946 graduate of Mayfield High School. She worked in radio and television, and even auditioned for a 1950's soap opera "Divorce Court." She moved to Los Angeles in 1960, where she met and married Army veteran Alfred Morris Kallman on October 21, 1962, in Carmel, Calif. She worked as a LVN at Glendale Community Hospital until 1966, when her only son, Kenneth Victor, was born. Alfred preceded her in death in August 1987 after 24 years of marriage. Barbara fiercely guarded her independence, with a healthy dose of good food, good cabernet and socializing. Her wonderful wit and humor were infectious. Barbara survived her sister Catherine Jean Beardsley (passed May 28, 2016), and is survived by her brother Alexander Joseph Bonnett of Euclid, Ohio, and devoted son, Kenneth Victor Kallman, of Los Angeles. Unending recognition is extended to her best friend and health companion Jacqueline Shaheed and Home Instead Senior Care, and to the extraordinary caregivers at Solheim Lutheran Home. After helping to raise two guide dogs in training, Barbara became a long-time supporter of Guide Dogs of America in Sylmar, Calif., and Dogs for the Deaf, Inc. in Central Point, Ore. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to organizations whose purpose is to enrich the lives of persons with visual and hearing impairments. Memorial services honoring Barbara's life will be held Wednesday, June 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Wee Kirk o' the Heather chapel, Forest Lawn-Glendale, 1712 S. Glendale Avenue, Glendale, Calif. 91205.
