Barbara Elaine Straus Obituary
October 2, 1930 - May 16, 2015 Barbara Elaine Straus (nee Sheridan) died peacefully at home, surrounded by family. Born Barbara Elaine Levinson in Spokane, Barbara moved with her family to Los Angeles as a little girl and grew up here during Hollywood's heyday. She is survived by her children Robert (Debbie Epstein) Ogner and David (Laurie Saffian) Straus, her grandchildren: Jessica, Levi, Noah, Asher, Gregory, Maya, Natasha, and great grandchildren: newborn India Rose, Zoe, Mason, Colton, Riyen and Huxley. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Straus, and son, Richard Ogner. Barbara was a devoted volunteer at her kids' schools and found great satisfaction in her work as a docent at the Los Angeles Zoo. She and Jack were active members of their Havurah at Valley Beth Shalom. Barbara was an avid and skilled Bridge and Mah Jongg player and she loved playing cards and board games with her family and friends. She was a caregiver at heart. Family was the center of her life and Barbara took great joy and pride in spending time with her children, grandchildren and their extended families, that together, truly became her one, big family. A beautiful and generous hostess, there was always room at her table for anyone looking for wonderful food, good company and love. At the head of the table, Barbara's laugh was heartfelt and full. She's missed deeply and her memory continues in all who loved her. Services will be held Tuesday, May 19th, 1 p.m. at Eden Memorial Park: 11500 Sepulveda Blvd, Mission Hills. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jewish World Watch or a charity meaningful to you.
