Barbara J. Berry

Obituary Condolences

January 6, 1923 - May 3, 2015 A resident of Torrance, Barbara Berry passed away on May 3 after a short illness. Her brother, Frederic Berry, and sister-in-law, Dolores Berry preceded her in death. She was a loving and attentive aunt to her surviving nephews, Charles Berry, of Campbell, CA, his wife Julie and their children Nicholas and Samantha, and nephew John Berry of Los Angeles and his children Miles and Theo. Barbara was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She moved to California during World War II and settled in Westwood. She had a long career of over 40 years as an executive secretary with the Southern California Gas Company. Barbara was an accomplished and prolific artist whose still lifes and portraits were shown frequently at the Palos Verdes Art Center and many South Bay area exhibitions. Her favorite gallery, however, was her home on Ruby Street where she was both curator and artist-in-residence, restlessly arranging and rearranging her artwork, furniture, and beloved possessions. She was very proud to have sold so many of her works and that they were enjoyed and on display in the homes of their owners. In recent years she had set aside oils and turned her attention towards abstract collage. Barbara will be buried in the family plot next to her brother Frederic at Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak, Michigan.
