Barbara Jean Peratis Obituary
August 27, 1917 - August 26, 2017 Barbara passed away peacefully on August 26, 2017, one day before her 100th birthday, with her daughter and three granddaughters by her side. Born and raised in Eaglerock California, Barbara Blake was both beautiful and highly intelligent. Although she was offered college scholarships, her family was too poor to send her. She was a voracious reader her entire life until her eyes failed her. Barbara was the consummate hostess and her incredible culinary talent was greatly appreciated by friends and family. She was also an expert seamstress and sewed self-designed clothes for her entire family. Her garden was beautiful and she was known for her fabulous fuchsia collection. After marriage proposals from several young men, Barbara eloped to Las Vegas in 1941 with Tom T. Peratis, the love of her life. They shared their lives together for 60 years, until his death in 2001. Barbara was the first non-Greek of their generation to marry into the Los Angeles Greek community. She paved the way for future generations and embraced the Greek culture, becoming a top-notch Greek cook. In 1952, Tom and Barbara built their home in Pacific Palisades where they lived happily for 39 years. They also traveled extensively and Barbara became fluent in both Spanish and French. She was smart, kind, gracious, and talented and will be dearly missed. Barbara is survived by her three children, Melanie, Tim, and Laurie, her three granddaughters, Blake, Maya, and Ivy, and her two great-grandsons, John and Luke.
