Barbara Lezin Scott Obituary
August 4, 1931 - June 20, 2015 Surrounded by her loving family, Barbara Woodard Lezin Scott died at age 83. Barbara was raised in South Gate, California, where she started studying the violin when she was 10. By the age of 17, she was recognized as one of the state's outstanding young musicians, serving for two years as the concertmaster and soloist of the All Southern California High School Orchestra. After graduating from South Gate High School in 1949, Barbara joined the San Antonio Symphony, at age 19, where she played first violin for five years. She returned to California where she raised her three children, worked full time as an administrative assistant and made a loving home. All the while, Barbara continued to play her violin. She was a founding member of the La Mirada Symphony, soloing with and serving as its concertmaster for 12 years. After retiring from the symphony, she still enjoyed playing chamber music for family and friends. Barbara's husband, brother, children, grandchildren, fellow musicians and friends remember Barbara with a compassionate smile on her face, encouraging words on her lips, her laughter filling the room, a child in her arms, a book in her lap, a pen in her hand, a spoon in her spaghetti sauce pot, a walking stick on the trail, and of course her violin under her chin. We will think of her whenever we hear a beautiful piece of music. Barbara taught us a bit about how to live with passion and grace and we will miss her more than words can say.
