1925 - 2015 Obituary Condolences
Colonel Barkley B. Yarborough 5/18/1925-7/14/2015, born in Rule, TX, enlisted in USMC 1943 and participated in WWII campaigns incl: Saipan, Tinian, Guam & Okinawa before serving with occupational forces in China until 1946. He reached the rank of Sgt before completing his tour in 1948. In 1950, eager to serve in the Korean War, he reenlisted as a PFC & was selected as a candidate for the Meritorious Enlisted Commissioning Program and returned to Korea, as a 2nd Lt. serving as platoon leader, C Co. 1st Marines. Prior to shipping out to Korea, he married Leatrice J. Cudd at Santa Margarita Chapel on the grounds of Camp Pendleton, CA on 11/7/51, a memorial tile with their names is on the Chapel wall. After Korea, he remained in the USMCR reaching the rank of Colonel and retired in May 1985. In addition, he retired from Aetna Casualty & Surety Company, where he was respected and admired, after more than 30 years, and resided in Huntington Beach. Col Yarborough dedicated his hobby of photography to support various USMC official functions and charities. He was interred at Riverside National Cemetery with full military honors. He is survived by his wife Lea, 3 sons, Dirk, Cris (a former Sergeant in the Marine Corps), and Paul & brother Wayne. "ColBB" was loved by all and will be sorely missed. Yes, he was awesome!
