Barry "Bear" Simon Obituary
March 30, 1945 - August 9, 2016 Barry "Bear" Simon was a fisherman (the Reel Nut), a devoted husband, a supportive father, a loving grandfather, a loyal friend, and a genuinely kind and caring man. Born in Ossining, NY, his family moved to Los Angeles in his youth where he graduated from Fairfax High in 1963 lettering in football, gymnastics, and track. He met his wife, Rachel, at Cal State LA and they married in 1966. He was a diligent worker as an administrator for a variety of public service departments of the City of LA, and he ran a successful side business operating a candy stand on weekends in a turnout on the road up to Mt. Baldy. He died of heart failure following an otherwise successful surgery for removal of a melanoma. He is survived by his wife, Rachel, his sons, Mark and Jeff, his daughter-in-law, Shani, and his five grandsons, Aaron, Sam, Arieh, Noah and Isaiah. We will miss his simple lifestyle, his quirky sense of humor, and his love of nature and the outdoors.
