Beatrice E. Marks Obituary
January 23, 1938 - May 25, 2017 Beatrice Elizabeth Marks, 79, of Beverly Hills, CA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 25th, 2017 following a year's long battle with lung disease. Born on January 23, 1938, in Holyoke, MA, Bea was the daughter of Mervin and Viola Marks of Brooklyn, NY, and is survived by sisters, June Garguilo and Lorie Wetherhold. Bea worked in the Music and Entertainment Industry for 50 years, starting her career in 1963 at the Bitter End Café in NYC, where alongside her friend and mentor, Fred Weintraub, she booked some of the earliest appearances by NY comedians who would go on to become legends-Woody Allen, Richard Pryor, Joan Rivers, Robert Klein and George Carlin. Throughout the '60s and '70s, Bea worked as a part of the management team for musicians including Neil Diamond, The Serendipity Singers, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons and many others. After countless years managing talent on the road, Bea moved into music publishing where she worked closely for over two decades with her great friends-Bob Gaudio, Marty Paich, and his son, David Paich of Toto. Outside of her work, Bea was a talented painter and illustrator, a skill she shared with her longtime companion and friend, Shel Silverstein. Though she never had children of her own, she was a loving aunt to Susan and Thomas Garguilo, along with her great-nieces and nephews, Kim, Christina, Lexi and Anthony. A private family church service will be held in June at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Coram, NY, along with celebration of life luncheon. In lieu of flowers, Bea's request was that everyone tell a joke and smile in her honor. For online condolences, email: [email protected]
