Benilde Domingo-Foraste Obituary
August 23, 1923 - January 14, 2018 Benilde Domingo-Foraste was born Benilde de Jesus Ramirez Alvarez in the County of Coinco, Chile. With her heavily accented English, she would introduce herself as Benny, you know, like "Jack Benny." She was the second youngest of nine children and the delight of her family. Benny always loved telling the story of sneaking off to eat watermelon with her father in their home garden. Early on she fulfilled her dream to become a registered nurse, and ultimately was head supervisor at the blood bank in one of Santiago's most prestigious hospitals. Benny was "picara," best translated as sassy and spicy. In 1950 she was given the opportunity to work abroad in Indiana. She and three other nurse colleagues arrived to Ellis Island, New York, and then went off on their adventure to Indiana. She was immediately embraced by the locals, and worked there for several years. Benny was the only member of her family to ever leave Chile. She then moved to Los Angeles, and met the love of her life, Pedro Domingo-Foraste, MD. Benny's proudest accomplishments were her two daughters, Dianne Domingo-Foraste, MD and Desiree Domingo-Foraste, MD. Together Pedro and Benny instilled values of independence and education. They traveled extensively with their daughters. The most memorable trip was to China in December, 1980 where there are photos of Benny doing tai chi on the Great Wall, surrounded by snowflakes. She is preceded in death by her husband, Pedro. She is survived by her loving children, Dianne Domingo-Foraste, MD, Desiree Domingo-Foraste, MD, twin grandchildren, Wesley Harris and Ryan Harris, and her caring family that remains in Chile and Spain. We will always remember you Benilde, Benny, like "Jack Benny," a loving mother and grandmother, that spicy lady from Chile. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 25th at 9:30am at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90068.
