Beryl Hideko Ito, 70, of Gardena, CA, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on May 3, 2015 at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. She was surrounded with the love and admiration of her family, relatives and dear friends. Beryl Ito was born on August 17, 1944 in New York City to Frances Kido and Tadashi Tom Murakami. She spent her childhood in Honolulu, HI with her Grandmother, Kichi Murakami, Aunty Ruth and Uncle Masao (Yama) Yamamoto and three cousins, Clifton, Rodney and Steven Yamamoto. She returned to Long Beach, CA when she was 12 and was raised by Mary and Tad Murakami. Beryl considered Mary her "Mom", caring for her until she passed away in September 2014. Beryl graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1962. She briefly attended Cal State University Los Angeles. Her career was colorful and varied, including business owner of Salesco and co-owner of S&B Brake and Wheel Alignment, wrapping custom high-end fishing poles, bookkeeping for her son's business (West End Alignment), Customer Service for Olympus and retired from Epson, America. Beryl married Toshio Nishimura in 1964, with whom she had 2 children, Denise and Darin. She married Susumu Ito in 1975 and had 1 child, Paul. A devoted Mom,Grandma, Great-Grandma, she truly loved hearing about and sharing her family's interests and experiences. She was a friend and "cousin" to all, enjoying outings, meals, laughter and get-togethers with everyone. Beryl enjoyed fishing and camping, playing and watching sports (she took it as a personal loss when her favorite teams or players came up short), Las Vegas (win or lose), music, computer games and crossword puzzles. She was fiercely competitive and always enjoyed winning (no matter who the competition was). She lived her life with full force and commitment. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild were a major source of strength and great joy. She will truly be missed. She is survived by her daughter, Denise Nishimura-Klatte; son, Darin (Sheri) Nishimura; three grandsons, Christopher (Jennifer) Nishimura, Garrett and Trenton Klatte; great-grandson, Rhees Nishimura; her cat, Scooby; one sister, Myra (Gary) Uyemura; and two brothers, Danny (Lynn) Kido and Kei Kido. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ryo Sujishi and her son, Paul Ito. A private burial at sea will be held on a future date.
