May 1, 1937 - August 26, 2017 Actress, model, and child star, Betina Barker Castagna, born in North Carolina on May 1, 1937, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her nieces and beloved pets on August 26, 2017. She is survived by her brother Charles (Carol), and nieces Kim (Ken) Baxter and Dana (Mark) Reynolds as well as many great- and grandnephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by both parents and her beloved sister, Marie. Betina was named Macy's Child Star of the Year in the '40s and appeared in Show Boat on Broadway. After moving to California, she appeared in television and movies, most notably, the original "Cheaper by the Dozen." While under contract as a young teenager with RKO, Betina was introduced to Howard Hughes. Mr. Hughes took over her contract and she became his protégé for more than ten years. Betina had a passion for animal charities and supported these causes globally. A longtime resident of Beverly Hills, she eventually moved to Orange County and finally Las Vegas where she quietly and peacefully lived out her final years. Those who had the wonderful fortune to know her will miss her terribly. She was buried in a small, private ceremony.
