Bette Jean Corrick Volk Obituary
February 16, 1921 - March 7, 2016 Bette Jean Corrick Volk died peacefully at her home in Pasadena at age 95 surrounded by her loving family on March 7, 2016. Bette was born February 16, 1921, in Healdsburg, CA to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jenkins Corrick of Santa Rosa, CA. Raised in Northern California during the Depression, the family moved to Southern California where she graduated from Beverly Hills High School before attending UCLA. She met her husband, Kenneth Q. Volk, Jr., fittingly on Valentine's Day, on a tennis court. It was a love match that endured 52 years. They married on June 28, 1944 before Ken shipped out to the war in the Pacific. Thus began a long marriage blessed with four children and much happiness. Ken was a founding partner of Public Storage, virtually inventing the modern mini-warehouse business and creating one of the most successful corporations in America. Ken predeceased her on June 6, 1996. She is survived by her dear sister Patricia Corrick Houser, and two nieces Susan and Nancy Houser, of Point Loma, CA, her children, Carolyn "CeCe" Corrick Volk Horne of Pasadena, Virginia Elizabeth "Betsy" Volk Terrazas (Joe) of San Marino, CA, Laurie Louise Volk of White Post, VA and Kenneth Q. Volk, III (Tricia) of San Luis Obispo, CA. She is also survived by nine adoring grandchildren, Hugh Horne (Savannah), Ken Horne (Britton), Scott Horne (Christophe), Rob Terrazas (Kelley), Brent Terrazas, Todd Terrazas, Ken Volk III, Valentina Volk, Letitia Johnston and four great grandchildren Sebastian and Olive Bette Horne, Cameron and Lindy Terrazas, all of whom enjoyed a special relationship with her. Bette was a woman of beauty, style, wit and great generosity who loved nothing more than to care for her family and friends. She was the consummate hostess. Following the death of her husband, the family endowed a research chair in his honor at the USC Department of Neurology for Alzheimer's Research. Bette was an active supporter of The Luminaires of The Doheny Eye Institute and The Pasadena Guild of Children's Hospital Los Angeles. She was a longtime member of the California Club, Annandale Golf Club, Valley Hunt Club and Newport Harbor Yacht Club. She will be sorely missed by her family but leaves a beautiful and lasting legacy of love. The entire Volk family wishes to thank her most wonderful and compassionate caregivers Jesse Perez, Maria Garcia, Raquel Semental, Alice Villa and Violet Catagna Maria. Private service and interment. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to: The Pasadena Guild of Children's Hospital Los Angeles, P.O.Box 51101, Pasadena, CA 91115
