Bill J. Dailey Obituary
Bill J. Dailey was born on May 8, 1921, in Topeka, Kansas. He died at the age of 95 in his home in Mar Vista on July 16, 2016, surrounded by members of his family. He grew up in Canoga Park, the only child of William Curtis Dailey and Lucile Evelyn Anderson. Bill served honorably in the Navy from 1942 to 1946. He was stationed in the South Pacific, as well as Pensacola, Florida where he trained pilots. Bill became a Los Angeles City Police Officer in 1947, and proudly served until he retired as a Sergeant Detective in 1978. On his 30th anniversary of being a police officer he received a commendation for having never received a negative complaint. He loved classical music and art, and as a result applied for a job in security at the Getty Villa, where he enjoyed working for 5 years. Bill is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carole; his two children: Michelle (Dennis) Hackbarth of Pacific Palisades and Mike (Judy) Dailey of Fountain Valley; 7 grandchildren: Michael (Ashleigh) Matthias, Keith (Brooke) Hackbarth, Kimberly (Brandon) Zinn, Jeff (Amy), Chris, Patrick (Andrea), and Sean (Emily) Dailey; as well as 10 great-grandchildren. His ashes will be spread at sea at a later date. Please contact family for information.
