Billy J. Peightal Obituary
October 9, 1925 - October 29, 2016 Our beloved husband and father, Billy J. Peightal, passed away October 29th in his Redondo Beach home surrounded by his loved ones. He leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Vivian (his sweetheart from Narbonne High School), his children James (Terri), Joan and Nancy and his grandchildren William, Leah and Luke. Billy was born in San Pedro, California to William H. and Margaret Smith Peightal of Lomita, California. He always had fond memories of growing up in Lomita. During WWII he served in the U.S. Army and saw action in the European Theatre. He lost his only sibling James in the Pacific Theatre of WWII. Our father was a proud graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and held a M.S. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Minnesota, St. Paul. He instilled in his children a respect for education and a love of reading. His working career started with the Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. To be near family, he took a job as Manager of the Date Administrative Committee in Indio and ended his career after 23 years as General Manager of the Navel and Valencia Orange Administrative Committees in Los Angeles and then Newhall, California. While sailing and scuba diving gave him great pleasure, he was first and foremost a loving son, husband and father. He will be remembered for his integrity, his kindness to his family and to others, his beautiful smile and his full head of thick white hair. We miss him. He was a wonderful man. The family will be holding a private service. Donations may be made in memory of Billy Peightal to the Lomita Historical Society, P.O. Box 549, Lomita, CA 90717-0549.
