July 22, 1925 - February 23, 2016 July 22, 1925 - February 23, 2016 Bruce was the youngest of 6 children born to Chester Arthur and May Agnes McElderry in Los Angeles, Ca. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Patricia Muriel, and three children; Chistine Blantz (Roland), Bruce, Junior (Kathleen) and Patricia Mateer (Jack) and seven grandchildren: Muriel, Sabrina, Elizabeth, Sean, James, Olivia, and Patrick. He also leaves behind 11 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bruce joined the U.S. Navy in 1941 and served all five years of World War 11 in the Pacific theatre. He received 14 commendations and the Presidential Citation of Honor for participating in many major naval battles including the battle of Coral Sea He jokingly referred to being married to Pat, his 15th battle star. Bruce attended Farragut College in the Northwest after the war and continued his education at USC. He worked for McDonald Douglas Aircraft Co for 35 years, retiring as the Facility Engineer for their Santa Monica plant. Bruce was an avid sailor, and a long time member, and Past Commodore of South Coast Corinthian Yacht Club. Bruce and Patricia have been members of Saint Bernadette Parish for the past 58 years. Bruce was known for his great sense of humor. devotion to God and country, and most of all his family. Funeral services and burial will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City on Monday, February 29, at 1:00 Pm.
