Byron K. McMillan Obituary
December 31, 1928 - October 4, 2016 Byron King McMillan, born in Los Angeles December 31, 1928, passed away at his son's home in Ventura County October 4, 2016 at 87. He attended Whittier College, graduating in 1952, where he made many dear friends and met his wife, Carol Coomer McMillan, who predeceased him in 2011. Byron served in the US Air Force, and then attended UCLA Law School, becoming a member of the California Bar in 1957. He and Carol settled in Tustin. He was appointed to the Orange County Municipal Court in 1963, and elevated to the Superior Court in 1965. He served as Presiding Judge of the Orange County Superior Court (1977-78), and of the Juvenile Court (1981-83). In 1977, he was named California Trial Lawyers Superior Court Judge of the Year. After retiring from the bench, he practiced criminal defense law. Byron had a larger than life personality, a wicked sense of humor, a generous spirit, and an ever present twinkle in his eye. Some of his fondest moments were riding his motorcycle; water skiing at Lake Mead with his friends; trips to Mexico, Lake Powell and Hawaii with his family; trips to New Zealand and Europe with Carol; and daily walks in Irvine Park with his dog, Maggie. He is survived by his family who loved him dearly and will miss him every day: his son, Jim (Laura and Kristi), and his daughter, Julie (Tim Baughman), and three grandchildren: Sam, Katherine (Katie) & James (Jack) Baughman. Memorial service arrangements pending. Please contact the family for further details.
