Carol Hoffman Hambleton Obituary
October 18, 1948 - July 24, 2016 Carol Hoffman Hambleton died July 24, 2016 peacefully at her home at the age of 67. Carol was born to Walter W. Hoffman and Sheila Bergin Hoffman in Oxnard. She was the great-great-granddaughter of William Dewey Hobson, known to some as the father of Ventura County. Her formative years were influenced by time on Rancho Casitas (now Lake Casitas) and her stately grandmother, Edith Hobson Hoffman. She attended Saint Catherine's in Ventura and graduated from Santa Catalina School before attending USC and receiving a nursing degree from St. Vincent's in Los Angeles. Carol enjoyed happy times at Tom Bergin's Tavern (owned by her grandfather) and at Newport Harbor Yacht Club, where she met the love of her life, Rick Hambleton. She worked in the critical care unit at Daniel Freeman hospital and fondly remembered weekend and holiday shifts when she felt especially valuable. After having children she enjoyed working as an interior decorator, taking pleasure in every meticulous detail, particularly with the home she and Rick built in Ventura, which met historical standards for Nantucket. Here they hosted their annual "Couples Cruise," boat parade viewing and formal holiday gatherings. She was always exceedingly confident at the helm of a boat and proud of earning her commercial pilot's license, sharing her father's passion for flying. Carol loved Maine lobster, heart shapes and anything red. Above all, she valued tradition, heritage, and doing things the right way. She was tenacious and ambitious, once setting a New Year's resolution to stamp out mediocrity in the world. When she was in charge, everything was first-class and done perfectly. She was a member Children's Chain of Children's Hospital Los Angeles and Las Patrones for many years. She was a board member of Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association and a manager for the Hobson Family business. Carol was predeceased by her steadfast husband, Richard S. Hambleton, Jr. She leaves her children, Katherine (Brian) Movalson of Eugene, OR and Rush (Sarah) Hambleton of Stonington, CT; grandchildren, Meredith, William "Hobs" and Olin Movalson and River and Rosie Hambleton. Also her sister, Kathy (Mike) Enright of Los Angeles. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Mission San Buenaventura, 211 East Main Street, in Ventura, on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 2 o'clock. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Search Dog Foundation, Livingston VNA or the would be appreciated. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. Condolences may be sent to TedMayrFuneralHome.com
