Carolyn Johnson Obituary
March 28, 1933 - June 8, 2016 Carolyn Johnson (Beatrice Carolyn Johnson), was born in Chicago, Illinois to Frank Arnold Beezhold and Gertrude Wendland Beezhold. In 1943, Carolyn and her family moved to California, and settled in Los Angeles. Carolyn graduated from Washington High School in 1950. She attended El Camino College, and it was there that she met her future husband James Johnson. They married in 1952. In 1955, James and Carolyn moved to Whittier, CA, where they lived until her passing. They had two children, Mark and Mary Ann. Music was a major part of Carolyn's life. She played, she sang, she composed. She had perfect pitch, and more. Carolyn composed choral music, and several of her pieces remain in publication. Carolyn was a creative and talented musician. In 1957 Carolyn and James started attending St. Andrew Lutheran Church, when Carolyn was asked to fill in as the organist for a few weeks. That few weeks lasted a bit longer. Through the years Carolyn served as not just the organist, but also as choir director, choir accompanist, and eventually as a choir member. While working at St. Andrew, Carolyn also attended college, receiving a BA in Music and an MA in Organ Performance from CSULB. After completing her studies, she taught at Biola University for 27 years. Carolyn loved family, friends, music, laughter and humor. She was dedicated to the church and to Biola University. Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, her brother Frank Beezhold, and by her sisters Trudy Boersma, and Ruth Nesseth. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 63 years, James Johnson, her son Mark Johnson (Eileen), daughter Mary Ann Johnson (Maggie), her sister Frances Otto (Ralph), and numerous nieces and nephews. For several years, Carolyn battled Alzheimer's disease. During that time she was lovingly cared for by her husband James, her niece Debbie Rooney, and her family. A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Andrew Lutheran Church on July 16, 2016 at 11:00 am, followed by a lunch in the Fellowship Hall.
