Catherine M. Veach Obituary
1922 - May 17, 2017 Catherine "Kay" died peacefully of natural causes at her home in the presence of her sister, Beverly. Kay was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, as a "Sullivan" and graduated from high school in Putnam City, Oklahoma. She spent some time in Illinois and Kansas before moving to California, where she settled in West Los Angeles. At an early age she began waitress work with her sister "Corrinne," in OKC at Triple A Root Beer, and a few dinner houses: Garland's, Spring Lake & Beverly's. Kay was wed to her first husband, Tom Johnson, in 1944 before he left to serve in the US Army during WWII. She remained married for about 7 years. When she eventually moved west to California, she met her 2nd husband, Roy Veach in Westchester, and wed shortly thereafter. In 1961 they had their first and only child, Roianne Veach. In 1968 Kay began her dream of making it big in California as a "Restauranteur," and opened her own restaurant, "Marshall's Coffee Shop" in West LA, where she employed and mentored many, to include family & friends. The restaurant was frequented by local law enforcement, and a number of Hollywood celebrities. In 1986 a significant earthquake caused the closure of her restaurant and the large medical/legal building on the property. She then transitioned to real estate investments and did very well for herself. Kay enjoyed cooking, ballroom dancing, bowling, some occasional sewing and playing poker, with which she was extremely talented. Kay, also known as "Katie" is survived by her two sisters, Corrinne "Corky" Roberts & Beverly Harrison. She was preceded in death by her daughter "Roianne Veach Worthington," parents "Mamie" & "Frank," and her (4) brothers: Edwin known as "Frank" or "Eddie," Wendall, Ralph, Willis known as "Bill" and her sister "Helen Rausch." Her family thanks her caregivers, dental and medical staff, co-workers, hospice care and many local community friends and associates who cared for, befriended and encouraged Catherine "Kay" Veach during her lifetime and in the end. A memorial service was held on May 30, 2017 with family and close friends at Holy Cross Mortuary in Culver City to celebrate her life. Thanks to all those who knew & shared memories with our beloved family member.
