Sister Catherine (Matthew) Quinn Obituary
March 15, 1922 - December 30, 2016 A Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary for 76 years, Sister Catherine (Matthew) Quinn died at the age of 94, on December 30, 2016, at Regina Residence in Orange. Born in the Bronx, New York, she was educated by the RSHM at Marmion Avenue School and made her Novitiate in Tarrytown, New York. She made her First Profession as a RSHM Sister in August 1940. She received a BA from Marymount College, New York, and an MA in Education from Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles. Most of her active years in ministry were spent teaching in elementary schools including Marymount Junior School, Los Angeles; Marymount Junior School, Palos Verdes; Instituto Marymount, Cuernavaca, Mexico; St. Alphonsus School, Los Angeles; St. Martin School, San Jose and St. Francis De Sales School, Sherman Oaks. She was a creative, unique, and engaging teacher. She went on to write children's stories, and was a volunteer tutor. Her later years were spent at the RSHM Community Center, Westchester; Casa Guadalupe, Montebello and Regina Residence in Orange. Sister Catherine was one of thirteen children and was predeceased by her parents, Ellen and John Quinn, seven brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her brother Joseph, eleven nieces, three nephews and several grandnieces and grandnephews. She will be greatly missed by her family, her RSHM Sisters and her many friends. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 9, 2017, at Sacred Heart of Mary Chapel, 441 North Garfield Avenue, Montebello 90640, at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City at a later date. May she rest in peace.
