Cecelia Hisayo (Fukunaga) Sutow Obituary
August 6, 1922 - May 21, 2017 Cecelia, a longtime resident of Long Beach, California, was born on August 6, 1922 in Los Angeles, California, to Hisao and Umeyo Fukunaga. She was subject to the U.S. internment of Japanese Americans during WWII. During this time Cecelia married Lawrence H. Sutow, the love of her life, in Wyoming where Lawrence's family was interned. While he served in U.S. Army Intelligence in the Pacific, she remained in Rohwer War Relocation Center in Arkansas. They were reunited after the war in Long Beach in 1945. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Christine Sutow (partner Ned Lazaro) and Joyce Kamida, and her adored grandchildren, Sheldon Kamida and Kelly Winternheimer. Cecelia was an enduring and indomitable spirit who loved her family and lived her life selflessly caring for them. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for her during her last years. At her request, a private memorial was held and her ashes were scattered at sea. www.neptunesociety.com
