Celia Mancillas Guzman Obituary
October 30, 1925 - October 2, 2017 On Monday, October 2nd, Celia Mancillas Guzman passed away peacefully at her home, in Lomita, California, surrounded by her family. Born on October 30, 1925 in Los Angeles, California, she was the daughter of Fernando and Maria Mancillas. She attended Bridge Street Elementary School and graduated from Roosevelt High School. She met the love of her life, Salvador B. Guzman (Sal), while dancing at The Hollywood Palladium, in 1950 and they married in June of 1951. They continued their love of dancing well into their eighties and shared many Sundays (Tardeadas) swing dancing with their longtime friends. Together with Sal, they raised their four children in Montebello, California. Although, she would be considered strict by today's standards, her home was the center for all the neighborhood children to play and laugh. And a child never went away hungry, whether it was a simple peanut butter and jam sandwich or the best tacos in town, there was always something for any child who was hungry. In 1975, Sal and Celia moved to Lomita, and together began an accounting and tax practice. With Sal as the accountant and Celia managing the operations, they created a wonderful business side by side. For the next 40 years, they called Lomita home, operating Business Bookkeeping, together with their son, Richard. Sal and Celia were avid world cruise travelers. Celia loved bringing back treasured native crafts from every country she visited. She bowled in a senior bowling league until she was 82. She was known for her wicked curve ball, and with her red hair, earned her the name of the "Red Hook." Celia will be remembered for her beauty and sense of style. She always took great pride in whatever she did; cooking, keeping a meticulous house and creating a beautiful garden. Celia is survived by her loving husband, Sal, her son Richard (Maureen), her daughters Denise (Tony), Cyn (Bill) and Cheryl (Craig); her grandchildren Deno (Tammy), Jim (Naomi), Josh (Sarah), Tom (Natalie), Marisa (Gerri) and Tylere, and her eight great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her loving sister, Virginia Dominguez (Ernie) and her two nephews, Donald (Dawn) and Ernie. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to Roosevelt High School Student Body c/o Celia Guzman Scholarship at 456 S. Mathews St., Los Angeles, CA 90033. Services will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 11:00a.m. at St. Margaret Mary's Church, 25511 Eshelman Avenue, Lomita, CA 90717.
