February 24, 1934 - November 20, 2015 Charles Gelfand was born in Detroit, MI and moved to Sierra Madre CA as a young boy. He was a devoted son, voracious reader and loved his Detroit family. After high school he was recruited by UCLA on a footbal scholarship in 1952, played on UCLA's 1954 only National Championship football team and graduated UCLA in 1956 with a Bachelor's degree majoring in Business Administration/Insurance. He continues his involvement with UCLA and was President of the Bruin Hoopsters under coach Wooden. He was active in UCLA's Academics for athletes, donating his time throughout his life. After college he pursued a successful career as an insurance broker in L.A., became President of the IIABALA (Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers Association of L.A.), President of Brentwood Country Club, and his Condominum Association. He devoted his life to his family, work and philanthropic endeavors. Charles was a most loving husband, father, relative and friend and would not hesitate giving someone the shirt off his back. His success in academics, athletics, spiritual Jewish culture and philanthropy never stopped. He is survived by his wife Inez, and his daughters, Dr. Cheryl Gelfand, and Janna Gelfand.
