Chris Harold Weiss Obituary
Chris Harold Weiss, 59, of Shelton, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Grand Island. A visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 15, 2017 at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River. Chris Harold Weiss was born November 16, 1957 in Kansas City, MO, to Merle M. Boeka and Stanley K. Weiss. He grew up in several towns in California as well as Cocoa Beach, Florida, while his father worked for NASA. While growing up, Chris and his family spent summer vacations visiting relatives in Nebraska. Some of his fondest memories were helping his Aunt Thelma and Uncle Paul Johnson in their grocery store in Wood River as well as driving a float in the Disney Land Parade in high school. Chris graduated from high school in Fountain Valley, CA, in 1975. He then furthered his education in Prescott, AZ, where he was enrolled in the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. He received the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Expert Badge with the M16 Rifle Bar. He was honorably discharged in 1985. Chris was united in marriage to Paula S. Bright on May 24, 1990 in Kearney, Nebraska. He and his new wife lived in Shelton where they raised two sons, Keith Richard and Scott Henry. During his working years, Chris held several jobs like refueling planes for Duncan Aviation as well as working for Chief Industries, Office Max, Tractor Supply and Case New Holland. Chris always loved college football; the University of Southern California Trojans and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Huskers were among his favorites. He enjoyed reading and watching movies, from the classics to Star Trek and Star Wars. He was very knowledgeable on many subjects and would always be happy to have long conversations. Chris' upbeat demeanor will be among the many things that will be missed. Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Paula, eldest son, Keith Weiss and his significant other, Tamara Kometscher, his youngest son, Scott Weiss and his wife, Tiana, brother Eric Weiss and his wife, Mary, father-in-law, Richard Bright, as well as his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and his mother-in-law. Memorials are suggested to go to scholarships for EMT training in Shelton.
