Claude DeWayne Van Gorden Obituary
February 16, 1930 - August 27, 2017 Claude DeWayne Van Gorden passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2017 in Pasadena, CA. He was born in Aurora, NE, on February 16, 1930 to Drue Burley Van Gorden and Corda Hancie Kirkpatrick. He was the youngest of six children: Ellen, Bruce, Robert, Donald and Glen, who have all predeceased him. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy M. Anderson Van Gorden and his five children: Claudia Van Gorden, Christopher (Cindy) Van Gorden, Scott (Tahni) Van Gorden, Anne Marie (John) McCoy and Kathleen (Aaron) Velasco, 24 grandchildren,14 great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. He attended school in Grand Island, Nebraska; joined the USAF at 18 and served eight years including Korea as a Sgt. All five of his brothers served their country between WWII and the Korean War. Claude completed his bachelor's degree in business at California State College Los Angeles. He retired as President of Los Angeles By-Products Co. and served as a member of their Board of Directors until 2017. His work there spanned a 58-year career. He was involved in several business associations including CMA. He served as a Board Member of the Cal State Alumni Board and was also a member of the 20-30 Club in Monterey Park, CA, where he met his wife. Claude also enjoyed his time coaching Pony League while living in Alhambra. He was a loving family man and loved his golf and poker buddies. Family get-togethers, BBQ's and holidays were special times for him. He loved dancing and the music of the big band era. He welcomed all to his cabin in Island Park and looked forward to out fishing everyone. Claude was a member of St. Thomas More Parish for 28 years and served in various capacities including Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church at the time of his death, was previously involved with the Men's Club. The viewing and Rosary will be held at Cabot & Sons Mortuary in Pasadena on Wednesday, August 30th at 7:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on September 1st at 11:00 am at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Pasadena, CA. Interment (family only) will be held Tuesday, Sept. 5th at 1:30 pm at Riverside National Cemetery.
