Claudia Pauline Carpenter Obituary
January 15, 1927 - December 1, 2017 Claudia Carpenter passed away at the Bel Vista Healthcare Center in Long Beach, California, of natural causes at the age of 90 on December 1, 2017. Claudia is survived by her two sons, John and Joseph, their wives, Susan and Vicki, and six grandchildren, Jennifer, Eric, Andrew, Kimberly, Kristin and Kenneth. Claudia was born to Phillip and Aurelia Martinez in Redlands, California. Her family consisted of eight children, two of which died in childhood. She has two surviving siblings. She attended Anaheim High School. While in high school, she worked swing shift at Hughes Aircraft drilling rivet holes in the tail fins of B-17's. After the war she moved to San Francisco where she worked for Fireman's Fund Insurance. There she met and married her husband of 50 years, John G. Carpenter, who served in the Merchant Marine and the U.S. Navy. Claudia lived in San Francisco, Long Beach, Norfolk, Virginia, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Kaoshiung, Taiwan, and Willingboro, New Jersey, before returning to Redondo Beach, California. She was a passionate bowler and was the Treasurer of the South Bay 600 Club. She played golf and was an avid football fan. Claudia was outgoing, independent and a loving mother and grandmother. She grew up during the Great Depression resulting in her focusing her life on providing for her two sons. She raised them while her husband was on deployments with the Navy, giving them a secure home. She enjoyed life and was frequently elected as President of the local Wives Club at different Naval Commands where her husband was stationed. She played bridge and loved crossword puzzles and the San Francisco 49ers. Funeral Services will be at Fairhaven Memorial Park Mortuary, 1702 Fairhaven Avenue, Santa Ana, California 92705 on December 8 at 9:30 A.M. A private family viewing will be held Thursday, December 7 between 4 and 8 P.M.
