Clifford Dektar Obituary
December 29, 1925 - February 22, 2016 Clifford Dektar, a member of the original staff of the old Los Angeles Mirror and a top executive and leader in the public relations profession in Southern California for over 40 years, has died. Dektar was a native of Los Angeles and a resident of the San Fernando Valley for 58 years. He was a three-term governor of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, a 20-year member of the Los Angeles City Fire Department's Citizens Public Relations Advisory Committee, a member and chair of the Program Group on Communications and Public Affairs of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, President of the Los Angeles Chapter, Public Relations Society of America and was elected by the national Society to its prestigious College of Fellows, and a founder of the USC Journalism Alumni Association. After leaving The Mirror he joined the staff of ABC TV's Press Information Department in Hollywood and was responsible for the premiere of "The Rifleman," "Man With a Camera," and "The Detectives." He also was assigned to the new ABC Sports Division where he worked closely with Roone Arledge. He left ABC TV for McFadden, Strauss, Eddy & Irwin, a national public relations firm, where he was West Coast supervisor for the 3M Company account and national Whirlpool Corporation account. For 15 years he was in charge of publicity for "Hee Haw," the country music series. He is survived by his widow Joan, children John, Daniel and Ellen, seven grandchildren, and his sister Evelyn Bharucha.
