Colette Genevieve Hester Obituary
June 16, 1933 - May 26, 2016 Colette was born in Tindja, Tunisia of Corsican French parents when Tunisia was a French Protectorate. Her father was a Colonel in the French Cavalry and also served as Police Chief in Tindja and Tunis. Colette was a teenage student at the time of the U.S. Army landings in North Africa in WW2, and observed some of the fighting against Rommel's German forces. Her family extended hospitality to many G.I.s. She attended French schools, including the Tunisian branch of the University of Paris. Following the war and Tunisian independence, her family relocated to Nice, France. She became a teacher in Metz, France prior to her first marriage, when she moved to the Netherlands. She met Leron Hester while both were working in Tehran, Iran. She immigrated to the United States and they were married in 1980. They enjoyed a home on the lake in Calabasas, California. She became a US citizen and began teaching at the Topanga Canyon French Montessori School. She went on to become the Director and was dearly loved by the children and their parents, many becoming close personal friends. In 1999, they relocated to North San Diego County near the sea, and ultimately to Lake San Marcos. They enjoyed happy times in their lakefront home. Here she died, peacefully, surviving her siblings, Jeorje, Madeleine and Solange, still in France. Colette is survived by her loving husband, Leron, her adored children, Marinka and Stephan, their spouses, Hans and Justine, and her precious grandchildren, Rosalee and Floris. Other survivors include her stepchildren, Susan, Jennifer and Laurie, seven step-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild. Colette brought beauty and a love of life to all she touched. She will be dearly missed. Au Revoir!
