Corlis Roberta Sapin Obituary
May 5, 1951 - February 16, 2018 Corlis Roberta Sapin, 66, of Golden, CO, passed away after a seven-year battle with ovarian cancer February 16. Cory was born May 5, 1951 in North Hollywood, California, to Abraham and Tinie Sapin. Cory received her B.A. in Psychology and Biology from Northwestern University in 1972. She was the first person in her family to attend a four-year American university. Soon after, she received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Cory was a practicing psychologist in Colorado for nearly 30 years, and is remembered by her longtime clients as a gifted, bright and deeply caring therapist. Cory found joy in helping others, and dedicated much of her practice to it, even dedicating her early years to helping veterans suffering from war trauma at a VA hospital in Boston. She loved life, had a sense of adventure, and was an advocate that one of the major food groups was definitely chocolate. She faced her disease with courage, tenacity, strength and hope. She researched how this particular cancer is tied to people of Ashkenazi Jewish descent, like herself, and was an advocate for BRCA testing, and ovarian cancer awareness in her effort to help others. Cory is survived by her three children, Joseph Sapin, Rachel Sapin and Sara Dameworth-Sapin, grandson Azure Heiden, as well as her love of 24 years Bob Dameworth. Her children are planning to hold separate memorials in California and Colorado. Please contact Rachel Sapin at [email protected] for more information.
