March 26, 1927 - February 23, 2016 Cosimo Louis (Cos) Occhipinti, age 88, of Rolling Hills, CA, died peacefully Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. He was born March 26, 1927 in Erie, PA, a son of the late Vincent and Mary (DiCarlo) Occhipinti. He was preceded in death by his son, Frank, his brother, Frank Occhipinti and sister, Mae Occhipinti. Cos was a graduate of Eire Technical High School and attended Gannon University in Erie, PA. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. He worked at Lohman Brothers of Los Angeles, CA and became an entrepreneur starting Cosco Fire Protection. He sat on the Board of Zurn Industries. And he continued to build numerous companies such as Denco Steel, Commodore Gas and Electric, Augusta, and Hickman Pipe and Tube. Cos thrived on giving back to his community in various ways. He funded the Mary Occhipinti Coronary & Intensive Care Unit of Saint Vincent Health Center of Erie, PA in honor of his mother. In the fire sprinkler industry he received the 1996 Golden Sprinkler Award. He was the recipient of the President's Award and later received the Medallion of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the highest award granted for his distinguished service to Loyola High School. After his oldest son graduated from USC in 1978, he felt the need to give back and became a member of the USC Associates. In addition to his many accomplishments in the business world, his greatest joy was spending time with his family, extended family and friends. Cos was a very passionate golfer who also loved to cook, travel, read and host many family gatherings. He is survived by his wife, Dena (Jeldum) Occhipinti; 2 sons Vincent and Cosimo Michael, and daughter Ann Marie (Annie) Occhipinti. Also surviving are many cousins, nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call at St. John Fisher Church, 5448 Crest Road, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275, on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 9:30 AM for a rosary reciting and funeral mass to follow.
