Daniel Amneus Obituary

Amneus, Daniel Daniel Anchersen Ph.D. Oct. 15, 1919 - Dec. 18, 2003 A few times in everyone's life, if one is lucky, enters a blazing star. For those of us who knew and loved Daniel Amneus, the warmth of his compassion, kindness, humor, honesty, dignity, and intelligence will always be a wonderful part of our lives. The memory of his smile alone could light a radius of miles. Daniel taught English at California State University at Los Angeles for over thirty years. He published many scholarly works including Back to Patriarchy, The Mystery of Macbeth, The Three Othellos, The Garbage Generation, and The Case for Father Custody. In World War II Dan fought as a combat engineer in the Battle of the Bulge for the U.S. Army. Dan's interests ranged from chess to military history and he was never seen without a book in his hand. Dan is survived by his devoted wife Patricia; his son Paul Daniel Amneus of Placerville, Colorado; daughter Pamela Phelps and son-in-law Todd Phelps; grandsons Clayton and Clark Phelps, all of Shelter Cove, California; brothers Tom and John Amneus, numerous nieces and nephews as well as a world of friends. Although Dan had many impressive academic achievements and honors to his credit, he was proudest of his two children. His son Paul summed up their mutual admiration by saying Dan was the "best father a son ever had."
