Daniel J. Rickley

Obituary Condolences

Daniel J. Rickley passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Pico Rivera home on Sunday, May 31. He was 55. Dan was raised in Pico Rivera and was educated in local schools. He was the son of the late Arthur Rickley and Shirley Rickley, both also long-time residents of Pico Rivera. Following his father and brother, Dan began working at the Los Angeles Times as a professional machinist. Over a career spanning more than 20 years, he was instrumental in facilitating many of the groundbreaking pressroom projects undertaken during that time period. His knowledge of printing presses and other publishing equipment was encyclopedic and he earned the respect of co-workers and industry professionals. Dan was an expert angler, mechanic, and avid auto racing enthusiast. While his career at the Times was an important part of Dan's life, his children were his greatest passion and joy. He took great pride in his two grandchildren and was a beloved uncle to his niece Sarah and nephew Tony. He is survived by his daughter Erin Rickley-Avila, her husband Richard of Montclair, CA, his sons Ryan and Daniel Jr. of Pico Rivera, sister Ruth La Reau, her husband George of Whittier CA, sister Becky Rickley of Malibu, CA, and brother David Rickley of Hollywood CA. Services will be held on Thursday, June 11th, 1:00 p.m. at Rose Hills Memorial Park & Mortuary (Hillside Chapel) 3888 Workman Mill Rd., Whittier, CA.
