Daniel John Cleary Obituary
March 24, 1929 - July 8, 2018 Daniel John (Danny) Cleary, 89, died Sunday, July 8, in the comfort of his devoted family. During the course of his 50-plus-year career in the music industry Dan was honored to work closely with master talents such as Nat King Cole, Patti Page, Andy Williams, Burt Bacharach, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, the Carpenters, and many more. Born in Chicago in 1929, he started his career in the late 1940s as a booking agent with Music Corporation of America, at that time the largest talent agency in the world. He was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood during the Korean War, where he coordinated entertainment for the troops. As a result of the MCA antitrust action, he relocated to Los Angeles in the early 1960s to join General Artists Corporation. In the following years he served as Head of Personal Appearance department at CMA and ICM successively. In the late '70s, he left the agency business to become a Personal Manager representing such diverse talents as the O'Jays, The Commodores, Olivia Newton John, Ronnie Milsap, John Farrar and Natalie Cole. Danny was preceded in passing by his first wife, Patricia Breen Cleary. He is survived by his wife of over 42 years, Celia M. Cleary, his 7 children and 8 grandchildren, all of whom cherish his memory. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Westwood. Details will be forthcoming.
