April 18, 1930 - September 25, 2015 David H. Roper, long-time resident of Santa Monica, passed away on September 25, 2015, at his home with his family. He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and friend to many. The love of his life was his wife, Margret. He and Margret met when they were students at the University of Arizona, and were married for over 64 years. David and Margret loved travelling, and travelled extensively to all parts of the world. David was a graduate of the University of Arizona (B.S. in Civil Engineering, 1951) and the University of Southern California (M.S. in Civil Engineering, 1960). During his career of over 40 years with the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) in Los Angeles, he became an internationally recognized authority in the field of operation of metropolitan freeway networks and traffic management, and was the director of the highly successful plan to manage traffic during the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. After retirement from CalTrans, he continued his successful career as a consultant on traffic operations and management both domestically and overseas. He was the recipient of a variety of awards and commendations in recognition of his contributions and achievements. He is survived by his wife Margret, his sons Steven and Mark, his daughters-in-law Carol and Debbie, and his grandsons Craig, Daniel and Brian.
