David L. Gregg Obituary
January 29, 1923 - May 23, 2017 A Santa Monica resident of 80 years, David passed away peacefully in the company of his family, nieces and nephews and loving caretakers. Born in Tucson, AZ, David served with heroic distinction in both the European and Pacific campaigns of WWII. After completing his Bachelor of Science college degree he embarked on a 35-year career as a City of Los Angeles engineer, retiring in 1986. He married his lifelong wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Gorey in 1949 and of their union his only child, David Jr., was born in 1950. He loved photography and fishing, served as President of Santa Monica Little League for two years and was active in many local bowling leagues where he was known as 007. He vacationed often in the Kernville area with his siblings and many nieces and nephews, in Las Vegas ala 007 and in the locales of his European military engagements. David loved and was loved by everyone he ever met. He always exuded happiness, humor and generosity and never incurred the animosity of anyone. He has now rejoined his wife Betty, who predeceased him in 2005, his beloved brothers Richard and Joseph Jones, his father Joe, his brother-in-law Fred Volker, his stepson Ronald Pittner, his Aunt Wesla and his favorite cats, Punkin and Ducky. He is survived by and forever in the prayers of his son David Jr., his sister Myrtle Volker, her daughter Kathleen Chavez, his brother Richard's daughter Lori Southerland, the many generations of his other nieces and nephews, and his blessed caretakers Brenda Sims, Sandra Slayton, Glorious Herndon and Maria Galvez. Services are to be held at Santa Monica Woodlawn Cemetery on June 13th at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Veteran's Administration Hospital of West Los Angeles.
