DhunMai Phiroze Dalal Obituary
August 8, 1938 - July 3, 2017 DhunMai Phiroze Dalal passed away in her home in Los Angeles, with her entire family at her side, on July 3rd, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband Phiroze, sons Hormazd and Zane, daughter-in-law Armita and loving grandchildren Shahyan, Arman and Shireen. She is also survived by her two sisters Franey and Beroze, nieces Vica and Zehranaz and several extended family. DhunMai was born in Karachi, Pakistan, eldest daughter of the late Godrej and Shireen Kandawalla. She attended Roedean School in Sussex. She lived in Karachi for several years and married Phiroze there in 1961. Her two sons were born in the U.K. and she insisted they be educated there, as she had been. In 1977 the family immigrated to Los Angeles, California, where her inspiration and guidance to the family continued until the end. DhunMai was very proud to be an active member of the Zoroastrian community in Los Angeles. She served as Secretary in the initial years of the Zoroastrian Association of California. She was one of the founding representatives of the Federation of Zoroastrian Associations of North America and on the International Board of the World Zoroastrian Organization. She was elected chairperson of both North American Zoroastrian Congresses held in Southern California, the first in 1985 and the second in 2014. She also served on the board of the American Youth Symphony in Los Angeles for over 25 years. She was a dynamic, generous and loving person who was the rock and inspiration of her family. She will always be remembered and greatly missed by many family and friends.
