Diane Manning Obituary
May 11, 1936 - June 21, 2017 With family and friends by her side, Diane Manning peacefully ended her decade long battle with Parkinson's disease on June 21. Born in Toronto, Diane immigrated to San Diego at age 12. As an adult she moved around the US, settling in Los Angeles with her husband James Paul Manning, graduating from UCLA in 1965, and becoming a mother in 1967 to her son Jay. Diane primarily worked with pre-school age children, teaching at the First School in Santa Monica for three decades, during which she completed her master's studies at Pacific Oaks College, Pasadena, and counseled adults and families as an MFCC. Diane's great passions were Art, travel and her pets. She painted, sketched, and sculpted all her adult life, while her travels took her across Europe, Asia, and the United States. Her visit to Fukushima, Japan with her friends, the staff of the First School, was a most cherished memory among many other travels abroad. Regardless of destination she was always pleased to return home to her beloved dogs, her friends in the Quaker community of Santa Monica, her poetry group and her art. Diane is survived by her son Jay (Maria) Manning, and her grandchildren, Peter, Josephine and Estuardo. A memorial service will be held July 29, from 3-5 PM at the Quaker Meeting House, 1440 Harvard St., Santa Monica.
