Diane Scripps Obituary
November 17, 1928 - July 14, 2015 Diane Scripps died peacefully at home after a year-long battle with cancer. She is survived by her sister, Virginia Scripps Semmes of Keswick, Virginia, her brother, William John Scripps, Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama, nephews Keith Scripps, also of Los Angeles, Ridge Gardner and Wes Gardner of Florida and Maryland respectively and her niece Ginny Semmes Craven of Virginia. Ms.Scripps also leaves extended family, a host of loving friends and her own "kids"- devoted rescue dogs, George and Petunia. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Ms. Scripps moved to California in 1952. She made an indelible mark on the Los Angeles community through her tireless efforts in service to animals. In 1962, she and her dear friend Virginia Haley began Pet Orphans, with rescues and adoptions in their homes. Pet Orphans was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 1973 and moved to its permanent home in Van Nuys in 1982. The organization has saved the lives of more than 25,000 animals since its inception and continues to develop its programs and services to ensure animal, health, happiness and well-being.
