Dino Basil Lappas Obituary
October 23, 1934 - July 1, 2015 Dino Basil Lappas, cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family in the early morning of July 1, 2015. He is survived and missed by his wife, Virginia, three children, Andrea, Maria, and Vincent, his son-in-law, Eli, and his two grandchildren, Max (20) and Dina (17). The youngest of three brothers, he also leaves behind his older brother Tony. A native of Los Angeles, CA, born October 23, 1934, Dino lived in San Marino, CA for the past 45 years. He was an active member of St. Anthony's Greek Orthodox Church in Pasadena, CA. After serving as a Sgt in the US Army reserves, he built a 25 year career in the recording industry as Director of Recording for United Artist and Capitol Records in Los Angeles. Accolades from his recording days include numerous gold and platinum records and mentoring many in the industry. After his time in the recording industry, he spent the next 20 years as co-owner of Gus's Barbeque in South Pasadena, CA where he enjoyed his time working with his son, his brother-in-law as his partner, the wonderful staff who was like family, and the treasured customers who made every day at work a pleasure. When it was time to retire, the restaurant was purchased by close family friends, so it was a peaceful transition into retirement knowing that it was in good hands and he enjoyed always learning about the successes of the new Gus's Barbeque. Dino enjoyed spending time with his whole family, working on his antique Cadillac collection, puttering around the house and garden, repairing with love any and everything that needed to be repaired, but mostly he enjoyed being with his wife, Virginia, without whom he was incomplete. Trisagion service will be Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 7:00pm. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 10:30am, both held at St. Anthony's Greek Orthodox Church, 778 So. Rosemead Blvd., Pasadena, CA. Interment will follow at San Gabriel Cemetery. E-mail condolences to www.ChapmanFuneralDirectors.Com.
