Don Mills Obituary

July 29, 1927 - May 21, 2013
Don Harper Mills, MD, JD passed away May 21, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He had resided in Long Beach with his beloved wife of 64 years, Lillian. Receiving his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati and law degree from USC, he taught at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, where he was a clinical Professor of Pathology. He was the Medical Director of the County of Los Angeles Medical Malpractice Program, devoted to claims management for the public hospitals and clinics. Dr. Mills was past president of Salerni Collegium of USC, a Fellow and past president of the American College of Legal Medicine and a Distinguished Fellow and past president of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. He participated in the development of the Academy's Code of Ethics and was chairman of the Ethics Committee for many years.Dr. Mills wrote extensively in the medical-legal field and was currently on the editorial board of the Journal of Legal Medicine. He was on the first editorial board of the Journal of the American Medical Association in the 1970s. Along with his wife, Lillian, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Frances and Philip, Jon and Nancy, and his grandchildren, Philip III, Julia, Amanda and Kyle.
Forest Lawn Glendale: Visitation, May 30th, 6:30-9:00; Funeral Service, May 31st, 2:00. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Don Harper Mills Scholarship Fund- Keck Medical School of USC: keck.usc.edu/DonHarperMills
