Donald Thomas Van Hoff Obituary
July 12, 1934 - March 17, 2016 Donald Thomas Van Hoff, known to his family and friends as Van, passed suddenly from this world of a massive heart attack. His parents, John Van Hoff of Holland and Lucille Kinney of Tennessee took the family from Chicago, Illinois to California when he was 13, where he spent the rest of his life. Van spent his entire professional career managing and operating a multimillion dollar lighting and home accessory business located in Los Angeles. He also served 8 years in the Naval Reserves in Los Alamitos, CA. Van is survived by his wife and soulmate for the past 25 years, Elaine Van Hoff and his older brother Joe Van Hoff. He was a loving stepfather to Cheryl Ingram, step father-in-law to Rachel Schneider and father-in-law to Karin Van Hoff. He was a proud grandfather of 9 and great-grandfather of 6. Van was preceded in death by his brother John, sister Gracie, 2 sons, Steve and Tom Van Hoff, along with Elaine's 2 sons, John and Ronald Schneider. Although he had suffered great loss in his life, his kind spirit and gentle and warm heart was always reflected in the smile on his handsome face. He brought tremendous joy, a quiet leadership, strength and love to all that he touched. Van enjoyed life through his love of travel, reading, fishing, photography, cars, music and animals; yet the perfect day was always with his wife Elaine simply by his side. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been set up at The Living Desert, a non-profit organization. Donations made be made payable to: The Living Desert Memo Line: Donald T. Van Hoff Memorial Fund.
