Dorie Gradwohl Obituary
June 19, 1934 - March 5, 2017 Dorie died peacefully at home after a short illness. Her far-flung family and friends continued to bring her comfort throughout her illness. If asked what gave her the greatest pleasure in life she would undoubtedly say "family." This includes Alan, her husband of more than 62 years, daughter Judy of San Diego, CA, sons David of Puerto Jiminez, Costa Rica, and Daniel (Sara) of Mooresville, IN. She doted on her grandchildren Jeremy Gradwohl of Philadelphia, PA, and Natalie Gradwohl of Eagle Rock, CA. She is survived by all of the foregoing and her sister, Lois Langer of Walnut Creek, CA. Dorie and Alan moved to West Los Angeles in 1959 after short stints in Berkeley, CA, Takoma, WA, Hunstville, AL, and Santa Barbara, CA. Dorie stayed at home and raised the children until the early 1970s. She then returned to school and earned her Master's degree in Social Work. She became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and was Director of the Valley Storefront for Jewish Family Service (North Hollywood, CA) for more than 20 years. During that period she expanded the Storefront from a small counseling office to a social services center that occupied much of the block on Victory Boulevard. She and Alan retired in the early 2000s and remained active as volunteers and grandparents. Dorie greatly enjoyed reading, movies and riding her bicycle. She will be missed for her sense of humor, generosity, irreverence, and caring relationships with family and friends. At her request there will be no services or funeral.
