December 19, 1923 - October 18, 2016 Doris "Dody" Leitelt passed away peacefully at the age of 92, in Santa Monica, Ca along the bedside, her 5 children Debra L. Fischer, Dawn R. Parker, William R. Leitelt II, Diane C. Varady, and Robert J. Leitelt. Born Doris Ann Jelsema in Grand Rapids, Mi., the daughter of Dutch parents John M. Jelsema and Clara Pell both from Grand Rapids, Mi.. Preceded by the death of her 3 older brothers: Melvin M. Jelsema, Walter P. Jelsema and Carl J. Jelsema. Dody graduated from Davis Tech High School in 1943, in Grand Rapids and was voted best Female Athlete. She moved west during WWII to take a job in San Diego, CA. assembling seats for the B-24 Bombers, while waiting for her love and future husband William Raymond Leitelt to return from duty in the South Pacific. William R. Leitelt married Doris A. Jelsema Nov. 1, 1946, in Grand Rapids, MI. and settled in Santa Monica, CA. where they remained happily married for the next 58 years. William R. Leitelt passed away 2/22/04. Dody remained in Santa Monica. She was a devoted Christian, attended Trinity Baptist Church in Santa Monica. Dody enjoyed playing bridge, bowled at the Bay Shore Bowl into her late 80's, loved camping and being with her grand children Rachelle Fischer,, Melissa Lamonea, Christian Lamonea , Drew Parker, Brett Parker, Lyle Leitelt , Travis Varady and great grand children Daniel Perez, Isabella Rodriquez, Nathan Rodriquez, Christian Lamonea II, Macy Lamonea and Mila Parker. Services will be conducted at 11 am, at Vintage Church (formally Trinity Baptist) in Santa Monica. She will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery in Santa Monica next to her love of her life William R. Leitelt.
